House Facts

History

The House is located in Anacostia, on a street formerly known by local police as "Murder Row." The abandoned 2-story brick building was used as a "crack house" prior to its remarkable transformation on November 21, 1999, when it became, "The House."

In January 1997, two former professional athletes in the NFL, Rickey Bolden (Cleveland Browns) and Steve Fitzhugh (Denver Broncos) along with Lon Solomon, Sr. Pastor of McLean Bible Church; Ron Johnson; and Richard Schacht joined forces to develop a plan for The House.

Marty Granger of Faith in the Family International was the 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that incubated The House in its first four years of operations.  In April 2003, The House became a 501(c)(3).  Members of Southeast Christian Fellowship Church also assisted with the development of The House.

The House is now a place where high school students come to turn their lives around. Through partnerships with area churches, The House serves as a catalyst for youth to develop healthy relationships and experience changes of the heart.
